Who We Are
Hey, there! I’m Cori. I live in the heart of Red Dirt Country in Norman, OK, where I work full time as an Operating Room Nurse . My husband of over 25 years is retired military, and works in real estate. We are a very typical American family: three kids, two jobs, pets, and a tight budget.
In these last few years, we have done something we had never done before in all our years of marriage: we started living well below our means, simply so we could pay for our kid’s colleges. In doing so, we started an unintentional journey towards a life lived simply. It wasn’t always gumdrops and rainbows, but we managed. We sold our giant money pit of a house, and moved into a rental half the size. Two years later, we downsized again. Somewhere along the way, I discovered minimalism. It’s a road map to the kind of life I wanted to lead. A life with less stuff, less busy-ness, and less stress, With more time to be together, explore new interest, or just hang out and be lazy.
I want to plant a big garden, raise funny-looking chickens, and putter with my hobbies. I want to learn to be a better cook, learn Spanish, and someday I’d like to see a little more of the world. These days, I dream of these new experiences, instead of new stuff. (Well, ok, I dream about building a house, too. But just a little one.)
Enjoying the Journey
I feel like I’m on the cusp of something truly amazing. As I continue on this journey to a life lived simply, there are other things I’m exploring as well. We’re eating real food and cooking at home instead of buying processed foods and take out. I started a garden, with plans to freeze what we need, and maybe sell the rest. I’m even doing a little bit of yoga these days. I am living a slower and more intentional life.
I’ve also become conscious of just how much stuff we throw out every single day, and I’m taking steps to reduce how much we’re sending to the landfills. I’m well on my way to being a bona fide treehugger. My choices combined with those of other like-minded people help to drive change; I believe we can make a difference and literally make our world a better place.
If you are here, it seems you may be thinking about these things as well. I invite you to begin your own journey to a life lived simply. Let’s walk the road less traveled, together.
